Dr Dave Gingsberg is a substitute Jewish doctor. Joel thought at one point that he was a Goyish imposter but later conceded the point. Dave rubs Joel up the wrong way for a number of reasons. First of all he loves the fact that he is going to be staying in Alaska. Second of all the town folk seem to love him. Dave is a bit of an over-achiever and seems to be very popular. This does not go down well with the troubled doctor Joel one little bit.
