Maurice Minnifield (Barry Corbin) is Cicely's richest and loudest resident. He is an ex-astronaut and business man. Joel blames Maurice personally for his stay in Alaska and Maurice seems to enjoy the fact. Maurice is more than a bit self-inflated and probably enjoys his own company more than anyone elses unless that is to show off his wealth of course. Maurice thinks Cicely is his personal fiefdom and believes Cicely is just a heart's beat away from becoming an urban metropolis.
