Dr Joel Fleischman (Rob Morrow) agrees to serve as a doctor in Alaska in return for the state of Alaska paying for his medical education, so far so good eh ? When Joel finally arrives in Anchorage he assumes he will be staying in Anchorage but life is never that simple. He soon finds out he must serve in the town of Cicely, a place which is not exactly what Joel had in mind. Joel who is a New Yorker is at first horrified by Cicely and does not know the adventure which awaits him. He soon however meets lots of interesting people and encounters some extraordinary occurrences.
