It's Christmas in Cicely and Maurice gets an early present when a man from Korea
arrives in town and claims to be his son. The man is named Duk Won and he has also
brought his mother (Yong Ja) and his son (Bon Joo) to Cicely. Maurice has always
wanted a son but a "middle aged China man" is not exactly what Maurice had in mind.
Maurice puts the family up in his house but things are strained and it is only when his
son is about to go home to Korea that Maurice starts to accept him and makes an
effort to be his father.
Maggie doesn't want to go home for Christmas and she becomes accident prone.
Maggie then learns in a letter that her parents are not spending a traditional Christmas
at home but are instead going to St. Thomas. Maggie gets more confused
than usual and starts to moan and groan about her parents not having Christmas even
though she didn't want to go anyway.
Joel agonizes over the Christmas tradition and decided to celebrate with a Christmas
tree. Joel eventually gives the tree to Maggie when he decides that is it just not for
him because he is Jewish.
Shelly feels depressed that she is missing a traditional Christmas mass and so Holling
sings a Latin mass for Shelly himself.
