In this episode Shelly's husband Wayne arrives in town. He declares that he can't marry his new girlfriend until he gets a divorce from Shelly. The fact that Shelly is already married shocks Holling and causes a rift between the couple. Wayne doesn't help matters by flirting with Shelly.

Joel discovers a possibly cancerous growth on Maggie's boyfriend Rick. Rick is naturally upset because he knows that Maggie has had others boyfriends that are now dead. Rick's self-concern doesn't wash with Maggie however.

Ed has problems trying to write a Hollywood blockbuster. He fantasizes about what the people around him would act like in the movies.
