Doc Phillip Capra (Paul Provenza) was Joel's replacement when Joel left the series for the Jeweled City Of The North at the end of episode #102 "The Quest". Doc Capra is a lot like Joel. He is scientific, rational, logical and quite anal. He is also married to the delightful Michelle Capra. Doc Capra and Michelle originate from Los Angeles. To be honest Doc Capra wasn't in Northern Exposure long enough to really develop as a character.
